TM4C129X samples availability

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EK-TM4C1294XL, TM4C1294NCPDT, TM4C1299NCZAD

Hello all and TI.

We are planning to create a new product and the new TM4C129x line would fit perfectly, since we have a previous development based on the TM4C123x family but new functionalities (+network connectivity) will make that the code won't fit on the 123 memory. We have first two months of 2014 as deadline, so we would like to know when could we get some samples.

1.- Has TI said something about it? I searched on webites and blogs and found nothing.

2.- Is TI supposed to release the samples (XM4C129x) before end of this year?

3.- When is  the release date of the final review (TM4C129x)?

4.- In case this takes a while, would you recommend us to port the code from Tiva TM4C123X to a Hercules microcontroller or  C2000 (DSP+ARM) device? Is the DSP side of C2000 much more powerful than the ARM-M4 processor on Tiva?

Thank you.

None of this even remotely your doing - yet our clients and hundreds here - all have been patient and really do deserve a realistic, properly detailed, 129x MCU availability update...

Uhm..(without steal head from another mother)... My baby  here reclaim to have some brothers and sisters.. maybe some sons too ;)

board seeks to have some brothers and sisters

Your board may have to wait, Roberto.  Might an over-weight/balding/loud uncle serve in the interim?  You'll recognize by the wife-beater T-Shirt emblazoned w/"BGA forever" (in red).  He's available (though massive/pricey) - right now - we're told...  Should your "baby" continue to cry out for brother/sister - might you, "Adopt?"  (we note disty shelves filled w/children...)

Appearance surely will suffer if you're forced to, "bend/comply" and, "graft in" bloated, uncle BGA device. (sole device - apparently - ready now - for long past/promised, "prime time!")  Fear not though - the (rather obvious) QFP demand has been, "Duly noted..."

Roberto - your "baby" certainly looks, (may I say) "STELLAR!"  Very nice job - as we've come to expect - from Roberto.

I would need to check on the dates for the different parts (and would be pretty difficult as well to confirm) as dates would shift based on production v/s backlogs.

Hello again Amit, as cb1 suggested, most of us who have designed a board based on your 129x devices have used a QFP package. In fact, I am quite sure that  more than 80% have used the TM4c1294 pinout (or similar), since it was the only IC to work with a few month ago (via the EK boards).

Then,  why not manufacture the most standard/ most used QFP packages before?

What real lead times are we facing?

    Thanks Amit for your help.

  • Hello PAk.

Can't comment on the lead time for every TM4C129x device both 128 and 212 packages. Digikey this morning shows stocks also arriving.

    Regards

    Amit

  • For those interested - seeking more (i.e. some) detail - we find 22 pcs TM4C1292NCPDTI3 "in stock" @ DigiKey.  (No. Amer. 04:00 this morning)  Device is 1024KB, 128 TQFP.  More stock is "estimated by DK" as mid September - imho that's uncertain...

BGA package shows 518 "in stock." (this BGA pck. appears to be - not exactly - "flying off" disty shelves...{strange that!   Duh!})

Poster PAk's "1294" device shows zero stock - with 1K pcs "guesstimated" for 11 Oct 2014 dock arrival.  DK "hedges" shipping dates w/ "Ship dates are approximate and subject to change."  (DK's far from "unique" - in that caveat...)

Devices missed by Amit/this reporter may be detailed via entering 1,000 pcs in "Quantity Field" of DigiKey's 129x part listing screen.  Such vectors you to a new screen - listing "expected" ship dates/quantity prices... Breath-holding - not recommended!

(This offered as, "public-service/work-around" to vendor's, "cannot comment on lead time for every 129x...")  Those of us here for any duration know Amit to be detailed, motivated - answer-oriented.  Suspect prior post's vagueness (if any) was vendor (not poster's) instruction/decision...

  • Very interesting and useful tips I think.I read step by step this informations and help me so much.Thank you for this great information

Hello Amit and thank you for your answer, but as you surely understand, we are not asking for every 129x device in the list, but probably the most used one TM4C1294, which by the way it is easy to find as XM4C1294 version.

Many of us have worked and prepared our boards (I have proof of that) for the "standard" 1294 IC.

Could you please, give us a little more information on it so we can arrange delivery times to our clients?

    Everybody is getting excited....

    Not flying, no.

Guesstimation is a bad habit, and sadly common lately. BTW, love the word!!!

    Couldn't agree more.

Hi Pak, on my original plan it was also BGA version with LCD controller. This package need a very fine line PCB, microvia and 10um track to escape from BGA. This is not what is desired on industrial board and compared to bigger FPGA is too small..Pcb cost a lot and increase unreliability too. Another trouble come from EPI, I need it to communicate from and to FPGA register, EPI can do just one task serving LCD or peripheral. Final decision was to use also again tqfp version and IP core LCD controller.

Just two part number can be fitted on our design if 1294 was chosen as development: tm4c1294 and tm4c129Encp. I got two samples on last december then no more where available, all the other qfp part miss on chip ethphy.

Today I got another ek-tm4c129xl, again XM chip is on board. I fear planned preproduction need to be done getting chip from demoboard.

Hi Pak, this is a good new for me but I hope can be for you too, again just EBV has TM silicon on stock!!!

Edit Update: I just finished call to EBV, part number is in stock available not allocated lead time 10 Wk.

     We can finally hurry up!!
