TMS320F280025: SCI mode does not have any position status or timeout status flag

Dear Teams,

My customer is asking following question. Could you help give some suggestions?

I saw that LINA can be initialized to SCI mode and support DMA to receive data. 
This is good, but SCI mode does not have any position status or timeout status flag. 
For data reception of variable length, besides using timer to do timeout query, is there any other good methods?

Hi Dylan,

Yes, you will have to use CPU timer to time out, unfortunately there is no timeout built in LIN in SCI mode, especially when you are reading through DMA. If you are doing CPU reads you can do polling on RXRDY flag and have a SW timeout loop, but again that will also take CPU bandwidth.
