TMDXIDDK379D: ACI Motor sensorless FOC control

Part Number: TMDXIDDK379D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDSHVMTRINSPIN, CONTROLSUITE, MOTORWARE

Hello Guys,

Good day.

Our customer is deciding between trying the TMDSHVMTRINSPIN and the TMDXIDDK379D using MotorControl SDK for ACIM sensorless FOC control.

From some of the posts I saw that TMDXIDDK379D has more supporting functions on motor control than TMDSHVMTRINSPIN, but does it support ACIM on MotorControl SDK?

Thanks and regards,

  • As a platform, IDDK supports a lot of feedback sensing options, which may help them beyond the current evaluation. If ACIM project is more important, they can port it over to IDDK, if they dont want to do that, then HVMTRPFC kit will be the way to go

  • Hello Ramesh,

Did you mean IDDK does not directly support ACIM but can be made to with some modifications?

Also, does HVMTRPFC kit and TMDSHVMTRINSPIN one and the same? Can I have the link to the kit?

    Thanks to confirm.

  • Sorry, closed the thread by mistake.

IDDK is a superset of HVMTRPFC, and so whatever HVMTRPFC hardware can support, IDDK can also support. Just that we have not released the ACIM software for IDDK.

Also, does HVMTRPFC kit and TMDSHVMTRINSPIN one and the same? Can I have the link to the kit?

They are almost same, except some changes in feedback sensing. You can find them all in our web.

    https://www.ti.com/tool/TMDSHVMTRINSPIN

HVMTRPFCKIT is available in controlsuite at

    C:\ti\controlSUITE\development_kits\HVMotorCtrl+PfcKit_v2.1

    Hope it helps.

  • Thanks for the clarification Ramesh Below are the follow-up inquiries form the customer in verbatim.

"Further esearch into the MotorControl SDK and InstaSPIN, I believe ACIM is not supported to be used in the 3rd generation InstaSPIN chips, for example the F280049C, but please prove me wrong.

From reading the support forum, I guess the only way to use 3rd gen C2000 is to use the F280049 (no "C") and only the MotorControlSDK libraries to develop ACIM foc control, without the FAST estimator? Or use MotorWare with the 2gen chips with full support for ACIM.

Would be wonderful if ACIM support for InstaSPIN chips would be supported, e.g. for the F280049C someday. Perhaps you know if this is in the pipeline to be released in near future?"

    Thanks and regards,

  • We don't recommend using instaspin for ACIM on F280049C, and wouldn't also provide the related support for ACIM with instaspin-foc. Customers can still use C2000 controllers including F28004x for ACIM with the open-source reference code in controlSUITE for ACIM, but they have to port this reference code by themself till now.
