TMS320F28388D: Interface Enhanced Quadrature Encoder to MCU

Part Number: TMS320F28388D

I am Making Design for TMS320F28388D Microcontroller to interface with 4 quadrature encoders, but the MCU only have internal Three Enhanced Quadrature Encoder Pulse
(eQEP) modules.

I am Looking for the best approach to do that and had two options
1- connect the encoder output data directly to MCU "A, B, I" and use software to deal with the incoming data "More software headache - unwanted in my application".
2- use quadrature decoder IC like "LS7082" and it will do  the headache part and give me "clock, direction, speed", I can spare 3 Pins to interface with it, the problem is that I couldn't find any reference design or trusted documentation using these ICs.

What would be the best approach to do?
Is there any better suggestion to follow rather than these two, specially the chosen quadrature decoder IC?
