CCSTUDIO-C2000: warning #1173-D: unknown attribute "byte_peripheral"

Also, are you getting this while using this header file with .cla files?

Hi Veena,

The CGT is v6.4.2 that a customer has to use it. CLA is not used.
Could you please let me know what causes the warning?

byte_peripheral attribute was added in compiler version 16.6.

Can you switch to the latest compiler?

The v20.2.4.LTS doesn't generate the warning.
However, the customer has to use v6.4.2. 
The reason is that byte_peripheral attribute was added in compiler version 16.6.
I believe that it could be ignored with v6.4.2 and also CLA is not used. 

Am I making sense?

In that case, they may not be able to use the byte peripherals like CAN, DCC, LIN etc.

You could do the following workaround for avoiding the warning:

#if __TI_COMPILER_VERSION__ >= 16006000
typedef unsigned int bp_16 __attribute__((byte_peripheral));
typedef unsigned long bp_32 __attribute__((byte_peripheral));
#else
typedef unsigned int bp_16;
typedef unsigned long bp_32;
#endif

Make sure not to use the bp_16, bp_32 as these will act as normal uint16 and uint32 types.

LIN is a byte peripheral and uses bp_16/bp_32 types to access the registers. With this workaround, those the bp_16 and bp_32 may not function as expected and they might face issues accessing those registers properly.

I have read "6.15.7 Using the Byte Peripheral Type Attribute" in www.ti.com/lit/spru514.
It seem there is only way to use newest CGT for the safe register access.
Will discuss with the customer.
