Hello Team,

Good day.

My Customer is using the TMS320F28379D MCU (control card + docking station), and would need 30 analog inputs and 4 inputs for 4 encoders (1 input for each encoder) which use EnDat 2.2 interface. What I'd like to know is:

1) Do they need to buy an extension board for the analog inputs? Would you have something to recommend me?
2) For the encoders, can I read the data for the 4 encoders with the MCU or do they need to buy any extension board for that too?

There are about 24 analog inputs on this device, if you need more you would need to use a second device. That second device could be a discrete ADC or another C2000 device, perhaps something like an TMS320F280025C device(TMDSCNCD280025C). As for encoders you should have plenty of GPIOs, but if you are trying to use an EnDat2.2 interface you will be limited by the number of CLBs available on F28379D. F28388D does enable up to 8 CLBs.

We have not evaluated as far as I know. However the CLB tool has been released and customers are free to develop their own custom CLB implementations.

It may make more sense to split your application across several smaller lower cost devices rather than one F28379D.

By a discrete ADC you mean buying a regular ADC and use the MCU GPIO to read its digital outputs? Just to clarify, the TMDSCNCD280025C that you recommended would be connected to the F28379D? Also, do you know if I could connected two F28379D in parallel to have 2x24 analog inputs? I guess that would solve the encoders problem too, if possible

Correct.

Correct, you could use an digital communication interface between the devices. If you use F2838x I would recommend FSI, unfortunately F28379D doesn't have FSI, so SPI/UART/CAN or similar would work.

Yes, you would of course still need some communication between the two devices, but this would work giving you 48 inputs across 8 ADCs.
