TMS320F28388D: ePWM Signals hardware configuration for BLDC Motor control

Part Number: TMS320F28388D

Hi,

We are using TMS320F28388D Controller for BLDC Motor control application.

For Motor Drive, we intend to use six step commutation process using 6 PWM signals.

In our hardware we are using following PWM signals from DSP,

ePWM - 12.

ePWM - 15.

ePWM - 2.

Do we use these ePWM signals(as cascade connection) or should we use serial numbers of ePWM peripherals like ePWM - 1. ePWM - 2. ePWM - 3.

Please suggest.

Thank you,

Manohar(Sigma Microsystems PVT LTD).

  • Hi Manohar,

if I understood the question correctly whether you should use the ePWM modules 1-3 or 12, 15 and 2. In my eyes it does not matter which pwm module you use. You can theoretically use any module. I myself use the PWM modules 3,4,8 and 10 for the control of a stepper motor, whereby the other PWM modules do other things.

    Best regards

    Leon

  • Manohar,

(Leon is correct) on this device the PWM order really doesn't matter. The PWM order on older devices mattered because the Sync chain was hardwired. Starting with F28388D it is configurable and no longer is a concern.

One common pitfall here is that if PWMs are sync'd every cycles the slower PWM must provide the sync signal to the faster PWM. If the situation is reversed the Slower PWM will never count all the way up to TBPRD.
