LAUNCHXL-F280049C: LAUNCHXL-F280049C unable to connect

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F280049C

Hi,

Good Day. I have a customer who is working with LAUNCHXL-F280049C. Please see below the query of the customer for your reference. Thank you very much.

The issue lies in a hardware broken or incompatible or something related to the firmware. Hard to tell because I don't have a second computer with 64 bits to try another USB port.

I already updated everything to the last version (CCS, drivers, firmware) and the device connects but after a while it disconnects saying there was an issue with the device in the windows device manager (as shown in the picture).

Customer encounter before error-2131 but fix after I send a link below from E2E Forum.

e2e.ti.com/.../launchxl-f280049c-xds110-debbuger-error-error--2131-0x0

Then encounter error-260 but fix again after I send a links below from E2E Forum again.

Then encounter the USB did not recognized (please see the image above).

  • Hi Ray,

It was working before and stopped working or this board has never worked?

    What is the CCS version?

They can try updating Windows FTDI driver.

  • Hi Santosh,

Good Day. Please see below the response of our customer to your question. Thank you very much.

    Good afternoon.

    CCS Version: 10.4.0.00006.

The XDS110 Drivers are version 2.0.0.2 from 02/10/2020. Manufacturer Texas Instruments Incorporated. Devices: XDS110 Class Application/User UART (COM 5). XDS110 Class Auxiliary Data Port (COM 6). XDS110 Class Data Port. XDS110 Class Debug Probe.

Moreover, the usb devices from the motherboard are:
Device: Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft). Driver version 10.0.19041.1081 from 06/07/2021. Driver Provider: Microsoft.

Device: USB Composite Device. Driver Version is 10.0.19041.488 from 06/21/2006. Driver Provider: Microsoft. I have two ports, therefore two of these.

Device: USB Root Hub (USB 3.0). Driver Version is 10.0.19041.964 from 04/22/2021. Driver Provider: Microsoft.

I downloaded and installed both FTDI drivers found in www.ftdichip.com/drivers (VCP/D2XX & D3XX) but nothing happened regarding the devices installed.

Let me know if you need any other info.

    Best Regards,

    Ray Vincent

  • Ray,

Can you check the target configuration and make sure they are using cJTAG 2-pin advance mode?

  • Hi Santosh,

Good Day. Please see below the response of our customer to your reply. Thank you very much.

Yes, cJTAG 2-pin. Again, the problem is not connecting anymore. The issue is that it keeps dying as an unknown device to windows. That happens independently from CCS and its configurations. That's why I said... or the usb interface from the board is broken (bad ic for example), or the firmware isn't well developed or there is an incompatibility among my usb hub and the usb interface from the board.

    Best Regards,

    Ray Vincent

  • Ray,

Can you ask customer to try another USB cable if they have one? Also, is there usb connector on launchpad visibly loose or broken?

Have they tried by connecting usb directly to PC and not going through USB hub?

  • Hi Santosh,

Good Day. Please see below the response of our customer to your suggestion. Thank you very much.

No visible broken pins or tracks in the board. Already replaced the USB cable 3 times. I'm not using an external usb hub, just direct ports from the computer (hub is internal to the motherboard).

    Best Regards,

    Ray Vincent

  • Hi Ray,

If you've tried 3 different cables and still see the issue I don't think that can be the cause. Do you have other USB ports on your PC to try? Do you have any other LaunchPads / EVMs to connect to the problematic USB port to see if they have similar issues (if you don't have another PC to try with)?

Something else you can try is re-programming the XDS110. Files are located within your CCS install directory, like below. Reference the 'XDS110SupportReadMe.pdf' for instructions and let us know if you need help.

    C:\ti\ccs1020\ccs\ccs_base\common\uscif\xds110

If you're able to confirm that it's not an issue with your PC's USB port and re-programming the XDS110 doesn't help I'd recommend requesting a new LaunchPad, as this one's probably defective.

    Best,

    Kevin

  • Hi Kevin,

Good Day. Please see below the response of our customer to your reply. Thank you very much.

XDS110 was several times reprogrammed successfully but the problem persists. As I said before, I don't have another 64bits computer to test the device, but my USB port is completely fine. I'd like to know how to request a new LAUNCHPAD as this one came broken.

    Best Regards,

    Ray Vincent

  • Ray,

If it seems the board is truly bad feel free to request a new one at the return link below:
