You can view the MCU registers to verify your code is writing to the correct locations. In CCS, load your code to the MCU, go to View>Registers, then step through your code to view the changes.

However, ultimately you want the pins to function as you intend (GPIO, SPI, I2C, etc). For that you can monitor the activity on the pin using an oscilloscope.
