TMS320F28388D: Query on (in)compatibility of McBSP and either Quad SPI or QSPI

Part Number: TMS320F28388D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28335,

Dear Sir,

in some of our ECS solutions based on TMS320F28335 MCU there are many instances of applications employing external ADCs with Quad SPI communication. We are about to create new DSP core based on TMS320F28388D MCU and would like to retain backward compatibility with those solutions (when upgrading HW/SW of these ECS solutions).

Within more than 5000 pages of TRM (with almost 140 pages devoted to the McBSP) there are no information referring the (in)compatibility of McBSP and either Quad SPI  or QSPI port. If McBSP is incompatible with the QSPI by default. Thus, we would like to know is there any possibility to implement these ports by configuring McBSP to operate in a legacy mode (like FSI featuring the capability to operate in legacy mode, functionally compatible to SPI), or there are some other possibilities to implement Quad SPI (apart from implementation of that interface within some other accompanying programmable logic device), i.e. by some other internal resources of the MCU?

Best regards
