TMS320F280049C: Using F280049CRSH vs F280049RSH vs F280041CRSH for Insta-Spin FOC Design

Part Number: TMS320F280049C

Hi we are trying to procure parts for our build and running into shortages, like most others, and are therefore considering alternative parts. In Our initial design we used the F280049CRSH, however that is no longer available so we are considering going to F280049RSH or F280041CRSH to run our instaspin-foc motor control.

I would like to confirm the differences between the three parts in the following ways:

1. Can all three of these devices perform equivalently when running Instaspin-FOC, or can only the F28004XC version run insta-spin

2. Is the only difference between F280049C and F280041C the available CLA - Type 2 and reduced flash space from 256KB to 128KB

Thanks,

  • Peter,

    1. Can all three of these devices perform equivalently when running Instaspin-FOC, or can only the F28004XC version run insta-spin

A1)No, only devices with the "C" suffix support the InstaSPIN-FOC SW libraries.  So F280041CRSH is the correctly alternative in this case to the F280049CRSH

    2. Is the only difference between F280049C and F280041C the available CLA - Type 2 and reduced flash space from 256KB to 128KB

A2)This is correct, no CLA and half the flash on the F280041C. The flash on the F280049C is split into 2 banks, each with 16 4k x 16 sectors for 32 total sectors.  The F280041C simply removes one of the banks, so the sector sizes are the same and 16 total sectors.

I'm referring to pages 7-8 (Table 5-1) of the device datasheet: https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tms320f280049.pdf

Let me know if you have additional questions.

    Best,
    Matthew

  • Great Thanks for the quick response Matthew, that answered my questions!
