TMS320F28388D: "CPU Reset" and "Restart" for the CM core in CCS

Hi,

when I debug the DSP, both "CPU reset" and "Restart" buttons are available and I can do both of them for the CPU1 and CPU2 as is shown in the following picture.

However, when I want to do the same thing for the CM core, there is no available "CPU reset" button. Also, the "Reset" button does not work. The following picture shows this problem.

Note: I also checked .gel files of CPU1 and CM and compared them with each other. I realized that there is no code in the "OnRestart ()" callback function of CM's .gel file. I thought this explanation might be relevant to my problem. The following picture is a part of CM's .gel file is related to its "CPU reset and "Restart".

So, my question is that how can I do "restart" and "CPU reset" for the CM.

Hi Alex,

I can see both reset and restart icon for CM as well in CCS. I am using CCS10.3 though but it should be same for CCS10.4 too. I see you have CPU in running state and that may be why reset icon is not enabled. Can you halt the CPU and see if it get enable and then try it.

The restart function in Gel is not needed for CM.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, when I halt the CM I can see the icons and they work well but when it is running the "reset" icon will disappear and the "restart" icon does not work. However, for CPU1 and CPU2, the icons work even in the "Running" state (also, they work in the halt state). Does it mean that for the CM we should halt it whenever we want to reset or restart it? If so, can you please explain why is this an issue for the CM and not for CPU1 and CPU2?

Hi Alex,

The available resets and the exact behavior of them can vary greatly between ISAs. Hence it is not unusual to see different options available between the ARM and C28x CPUs. Whether the behavior you see is intended (CPU reset no being available for the ARM when the CPU is running) or not I'm not exactly sure. I am following up with engineering to confirm. I'll keep you posted of any updates I receive.
