HV Mtr PFC Kit question

Hi,

I am using the High Voltage Motor PFC Kit to develop. I recently implemented part of my SCI module and would like to debug it over JTAG. However, it looks like the JTAG and serial port (in this case Serial-to-USB port) are shared by the same chip and this cannot be done?

Is this correct? If so, how best to debug the serial communications with this kit?

Best regards,

David

  • The FTDI chip is used for both purposes on the board but I think there is a way around your predicament.  Note that I have not done this, but it looks like if you disable the onboard emulation you can plug in an external emulator (XDS100 will do for about $79) and use that for debug whilst using the FTDI chip for serial comms.

    Hopefully this helps,

  • David,

The FTDI supports parallel JTAG and SCI operation, you can have CCS connected and still use the serial channel that enumerated on the host computer for debugging serial code. So in short yes this is possible just have your jumper setting correct i.e. you would need both JTAG jumper [Main]-J9, and the serial jumper [M3]-J4 connected on the board, refer to the HW reference guide for details.

@Tim, if you populate the JTAG reset jumper then you would not be able to use the FTDI as all hence no serial, however an external emulator can be used in such a configuration but the serial cannot be used.
