TMS320LF2406A: fail to do SCI communication

Part Number: TMS320LF2406A

Hi Expert,

My customer face an issue that their on-sale product may have possibility that fail to do SCI communicate after running several days. about 6 per 1000 products will have the issue.

below are the details:

1. MCU did not go to illegal ISR as there have blink light controlled by MCU.

2. it is not a soft error, power off device and repower on, there still have this issue.

3. if they reprogramming the MCU by JTAG with same code, there is no issue, which means the device is not destroyed.

4. Cross check test: remove the MCU and replace a new one, there is no this issue, if put the failed MCU to a new board, there still have the issue.

It is old device, there is no way for customer to use emulator to check related registers and flash content.

any suggestion for this? is it possible that some flash bit was changed unexpectedly because reprogramming the device there will no issue.

  • Hi Strong,

Can you please provide more context behind the actual issue being seen? Do they get incorrect data, does the device hang, etc.

Was this issue seen prior to production?

Is the SCI programmed to do a software reset if there are any RX issues?

is it possible that some flash bit was changed unexpectedly because reprogramming the device there will no issue.

How many times does the flash need to be reprogrammed? Just once?

    Best Regards,

    Marlyn

  • Marlyn,

device go to protection without SCI communication,

their product run for several years.

Is the SCI programmed to do a software reset if there are any RX issues?

--> repower the device which reset all software still have the issue.

How many times does the flash need to be reprogrammed? Just once?

    --> Just once

  • Hi Strong,

Thank you for answering some of the questions.

Can you please provide more context behind the actual issue being seen? Do they get incorrect data, does the device hang, etc.

I don't believe you've mentioned what the actual issue is, apologies if you have.

    Best Regards,

    Marlyn

  • Strong,

It appears re-programming the device solves the issue. Has any re-programmed device shown the problem again?

How was this traced to an issue with the SCI module? Reading the thread, it looks like SCI issue is just the symptom, but the root cause is something else (perhaps weak programming of the flash). Did anything change in the flash programming setup?
