LAUNCHXL-F28379D: TI GUI Composer: How to Associate ScalarGraph X Axis with Time?

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F28379D

Hello,

I am using the ScalarGraph component to display a time-varying variable, for example, the temperature in this case.  I do not find a way to convert the x-axis to time.  In the attached screen capture, you can see the x-axis is simply showing the number of samples.  In the demo example https://dev.ti.com/gc/v2/components/ti-widget-graphs/demo/ti-widget-scalargraph/demo.html, it seems it's possible to have time as the actual unit.  Could you show me how to achieve this?

Thank you,

Baoyun

  • Hello,

I will need to follow up with the GC experts. As soon as I get any updates, I will pass them on to this thread.

    Thanks

Did you try setting "xAxisLabel" in the properties?

    Thanks

    ki

  • I tried that, but "xAxisLable" is just a name for the x-axis.  What I am looking for is converting the sampling count to time with a physical meaning rather than a name.

    Thank you,

  • Hello Ki,

Do you have any updates on the issue I brought up here?

    Thank you,

  • Sorry for the delay. The engineer whom I needed assistance from was away on vacation. She still is on vacation but was kind enough to provide some more information.

She mentioned that the demo you are referring to is in fact not specifically time but units. The x value is 0, 1,2, 3, … etc. That is, you can interpret it as 0-based indexing, sample count, and so on. But looking at the demo, it is understanable why people could interpret the x-values as actual time because the axis label is time (s). Yes, you can interpret that way as far as y-value are really sampled at the same rate.

Hence, simply: There is no conversion to time that is being done on the GUI Composer side. Converting from sampling count (or whatever) to time domain needs to be done either on the target applicationside or with the GUI Composer application doing your own conversion with your own controlled sampling rate. Basically, GUI Composer can not be configured to easily do this for you.

  • Got it.  This is helpful, thanks!

Do you know the default sampling rate of the ScalarGraph gadget?  If there is a sampling rate, then I can still convert the sample count to time in the post-processing.

  • My apologies for the late response. You can try specify the desired sample rate with the tickPeriod field (sampling period in ms) and toggling tickOn.
