1. Can you please advise the differences between the TMS320F28034 and TMS320F28035? Also, are they pin and package compatible?

2. Can you please review the attached schematic of the CPU and advise if all Power, GND, JTAG, and connection lines look correct?

Presence/absence of the CLA. Please refer to table 5-1 in www.ti.com/lit/sprs584.

They are both available in similar packages and for a given package, they are pin-compatible. Again, refer to Table 5-1.

You may want to consider a R-C circuit on the -XRS pin as opposed to just a R. You may also want to look into lowering the resistor for -TRST pin. The datasheet suggests 2.2K. If your JTAG debug probe can live with it, you could attempt to go lower. Excess noise on the -TRST pin can put the device into some unknown state during operation.

Thank you for the reply.

I have used the TMS320F28015 in the past, I don't recall that device having a CLA. Can you please confirm the 28015 does not have the CLA?

Adding an RC to the -XRS pin is a good idea. Will that help keep the -XRS pin low a little longer if needed to help prevent glitches on power up?

I will lower the resistor on the TRST pin, thank you.

It does not.

It would aid that. Note that the reset duration during power-up is determined by the power-on-reset (POR) circuit.

Please check the following resources for isolated JTAG debug probes (we don’t call them “emulators” anymore):

Unfortunately, Spectrum Digital, the company that made isolated JTAG probes went out of business recently. However, you may still be able to buy their probes online. Another option you may want to look at is https://www.ti.com/tool/TMDSCNCD28035ISO.

Hi Hareesh,

That was helpful, thank you. I hope I can find a debug probe, the links will hopefully point me in the right direction. The TMDSDOCK28035 looks good, what does that plug into? I assume I need to order both?

TMDSDOCK28035 includes the Controlcard and the docking station. Please look at the 4th photograph in the ordering page.
