TMS320F28388D: Input XBar eCAP inputs

Hi all!

I will use 6 eCAP modules to measure frequency or duty cycle and 1 to generate PWM. I think I can route the PWM output to any GPIO with Output XBar right?

I think I can reserve any input of the inut Xbar to any ecap module also?

However the table 6-8(page 81) confuses me. What does this eCAP1 Capture Input - eCAP6 Capture Input mean? Should I use these pins to route GPIO's to eCAP's for pulse measuring?

Hi Erhan,

This is a compatibility mode for the F2837x device which does not have the "eCAP Input Selection" mux i.e ECCTL0.INPUTSEL. At reset, ECCTL0.INPUTSEL register of the F2838x device will contain 0x7F i.e 127 which means INPUT7 will be connected to eCAP1, INPUT8 will be connected to eCAP2, etc.

If you are not porting code from F2837x to F2838x, you can ignore this feature and set ECCTL0.INPUTSEL to whatever is needed in your application. Let us know if this is not clear.

Hi Frank,

thank you so much. I think I got it but i am asking just to be sure. So I can use any input of input XBar with any ecap module to capture signal from GPIO's? right?

Hi Erhan,

That is correct. ECCTL0.INPUTSEL[15:0] of each ECAP instance maps to INPUTXBAR1-16 as highlighted below. For instance, you can use INPUTXBAR1 for all ECAPs if that is what is needed in your application.
