TMS320F28375S: Microcontroller I2C signals connection compatibility with Battery Manager SMBUS signals

Part Number: TMS320F28375S

I have the TMS320F28375SPZPQ and want to know whether I2C interface signals can be connected to a BQ40Z50RSMR-R1 s Li-Ion Battery Pack Manager.

This battery manager provides a SMBUS 1.1 interface.

I have checked levels in both devices and don't have clear information that this can be done according to the suggestions described in "SMBus Compatibility With an I2C Device, sloa132".

I attach a capture that says compatibility is ensured according to two conditions and some others related to each device.

But is it required that these two conditions are ok or just one of them?

I'm saying this because the first one: "If minimum VIH of a target I2C device is 2.1V or less, compatibility is ensured" is accomplished in the microcontroller.

Could you help me with this and confirm whether this connection can be done or not?

Regards,

  • Aaron,

F28375S VIH is 2.0 which is less than 2.1 required. So, it does meet the condition.

We have had customer use I2C to interface with PMBus without problem. I don't see why interfacing with SMBus would be a problem.

However, you need to aware that C28x-I2C doesn't have clock timeout, PEC and other features natively support by the SMBus / PMBus module. You may have to use additional hardware resources in device to implement those functions.

    Regards,
