Quick PWM Q

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F280200

Hi There

I just came across the TMS320F280200. I have downloaded the ePWM ref guide in relation to this, but I note that it is very detailed and will take quite a bit of reading...

I would like to check suitability of this device before spending the afternoon reading the pdf, so if anyone has familiarity with this device could you tell me if it is able to generate a PWM signal with frequency that varies from 0.1MHz to 50MHz and with a duty cycle that varies continuously (or at least with a pretty high resolution) from 0% to 100% at the lower frequencies and a reduced range around 50% at the high end...?

Very much appreciated to save my time learning if is not suitable, thanks you.

  • Hi Toby,

TMS320F280200 is a 40MHz device - you will have a hard time learning him a 50MHz PWM... If this is a real requirement, you should head to a much faster device (delfino family / 300MHz TMS320F2833x). Besides this, your requirements should fit C2000 processors. You can modulate the frequency along with the duty cycle, and if you choose a device with high resolution pwm you can have duty cycle resolution as high as 150ps.

Hope this saved you some minutes

    Best regards

    Andreas

  • Aha so it is, missed that vital detail, somehow thought it was a 60MHz device.

thanks for your suggestion Andreas, i'll check the F2833 out
