Dear Champs,

I am asking this for our customers.

1. Can BGCRC support Pmbus CRC8 and CRC-16-CCITT?

2. Can VCRC support Pmbus CRC8 and CRC-16-CCITT?

3. In our PMBus library in C2000ware below, how do we support PMBus CRC? Do we use BGCRC and/or VCRC? Would you please explain and clarify? Especially the one for PMBus over I2C.

We use VCRC for calcualting the PEC byte for PMBus over I2C.

The user wonders why you used VCRC rather than BGCRC for that?

VCRC is a C28 accelerator and still takes C28x resource/cycles and needs calling VCRC library.

BGCRC is an independent HW without C28x resource and they think it saves more C28x resource.

Does it make more sense to use an independent HW where the user only needs to configure registers for PMBus CRC calculation?

Is it because BGCRC can be only used for CRC-32 rather than CRC-8 or CRC-16? Or do you have any other concern?

The user wants us to help confirm if BGCRC can be used for this purpose (PMBus CRC).

Wayne, BGCRC experts mentioned that BGCRC uses CRC32 fixed polynomial and the data size must be multiples of 256 bytes.

From a quick glance, found that PMBUS uses CRC8. PMBUS expert will confirm further details on whether BGCRC can be used or not for PMBUS.

BGCRC uses CRC-32 polynomial and cannot be used for CRC-8 , hence we used VCRC for calculating the PEC byte for PMBus over I2C.
