Error initializing emulator eZdsp F28335

I have eZdsp F28335 kit but not an external emulator (XDS510, XDS560 etc. ) . There weren't problem until I had lost my connection because of EMI Signals. Now when starting it says:

Error initializing emulator

I/O Port = 540

Board Name: F28335_eZdsp
Cpu Name: cpu_0

Abort:  Close Code Composer Studio.
Retry:  Try to initialize the emulator again.
Ignore:  Ignore the initialization error and start
  potentially without target debugging access.
Diagnostic: Run diagnostic utility.

What can I do? I tried to use a shielded USB cable, a Faraday cage but I couldnt make a connection? Thanks...

  • Hi Meral

    have look at this link:

    cheers

  • Thanks Mo

I have eZdsp F28335 kit and it says it has an on-board JTAG emulator so it doesn't require an external emulator. So I haven't got an external emulator. To use a galvanic isolator I think I must use an external emulator. IS it right? I think I had damaged the kit. The ADC modules doon't work unfortunately. I don't knw how I damaged the ADCs. I permenantly looked the signals going to ADCs. Have you got any idea? Thanks again.

  • Hi Meral,

I work on High Power Electronics Converters. I use Blackhawk USB2000 Controller with jtag isolator.

Before I have damaged various MCU boards, Emulators and Computers. But now I do not have any problem witm jtag isolator.

Common mode voltages between your application and computer can damage your hardware.

  • Hi Arif

    Thank you for your reply,

May  damaging ADCs be about the emulator or JTAG isolator? After damaging the kit this disconnecteing problem occured.

Is the isolator used with the onboard JTAG emulator on the ezdsp kit? Because I don't have an external emulator and it takes long time to bring it.

On the eZdsp F28335, the GND, AGND and ADCLO is shorted. I connect GND of ADC to my sensing circuit's GND. The signals had peaks when turning on switches in spite of using snubbr but they didn,'t exceed to 3 V. I always looked the signals. Is my correction wrong?  I send my voltage sensing circuit's output voltage. As you see it doesn't reach  to 3 V. I am very confused. Why did the ADC modules burnt? Ihave another kit but I don't want to use it without finding the reason of damaging. Thanks again Arif....

  • To protect the ADC inputs from Common mode voltage damages I suggest you to use a differential amp. like below.

And in the case of an overvoltage or voltage spike at ADC inputs, the diodes tied to Vdd and GND will protect the ADC.

  • Thank you for your answer. I will simulate this circuit at first with Proteus, understand and implement. Thanks. I will ask another question. You say I used Blackhawk USB2000 Controller with jtag isolator. Did you use it with eZdsp? If so, what is your jtag isolator's code? Or is it accessory of the Blackhawk USB2000 Controller? Thanks agin.

  • 28335 EzDSP has a jtag connector for external Emulator connect. You can use any 28335 compatible Jtag emulator with EzDSP.
