TMS320F28075: If the internal 1.2-V VREG is used, is it still necessary to link all the VDD pins

Part Number: TMS320F28075

On a TMS320F28075 based board, if the TMS chip's internal 1.2-V VREG is enabled (i.e. by pulling VREGENZ low) is it still necessary to link all the VDD pins with external traces?

  • Alexander,

No, it is not necessary to gang the VDD pins when using the internal VREG.  You would only need to follow the DS guidance of a distributed 12uF-26uF evenly to each pin.

If you are migrating away from an existing design that did use an external supply and have the supplies ganged, then you can leave them ganged, but would still need a local cap to the pin per above(in addition to driving VREGENZ low to enable the VREG).

    Best,

    Matthew

  • Thanks, I removed the traces between the pins as it cleaned up the board layout a bit.
