CCS4 Debug options reset cpu and restart buttons

I'm a little confused on the operation of the CCS4 debug "restart"  button.

When halted, If I select the button "reset CPU",  then the "run" button, my program runs fine.

When halted, If I select the button "restart", my program does not run correctly.

I have some init code configured BEFORE the c_int00 is called, and it appears this code is not running.

Is there some description of the "restart" button, or is there some way to override it to start from the reset vector?

"Reset" is an acutal reset of the device.  The code will start in the boot ROM and run through.  It doesn't matter what application is loaded.

"Restart" forces the PC to the "entry point" of the code.  By default this is c_int00.  In the TI examples the entry point is often set to the codestart section using a linker option (-e I think)  This is why TI examples issue a warning about "entry point not c_int00" but it allows for "restart" to run the code placed before c_int00.

  • One other note: in my personal setup I often setup a OnReset in my gel file to perform a restart as well.  (reset -> restart). This is if I am being lazy and do not want to set the boot mode pins.  I want to make sure the device is reset, but want CCS to force the PC instead of going through the boot ROM.

At some point, however, an application will need to be tested through the full reset flow.

  • Is there a way to set the restart entry point?  I couldn't find it in CCS4. Thanks.
