TMS320F28065: TMS320F28065 Matlab External Mode USB Serial Adapter

Part Number: TMS320F28065
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28069M

My query is regarding Matlab external mode with TMS320F28065 based controller board.

I have a LAUNCHPAD TMS320F28069M, where I can connect it with Matlab using simple USB wire and can flash the code as well as run the Matlab Models in external mode for monitoring and tuning. I understand it has on-board debugger hardware too.

I want to understand if I have to achieve same feature on my F28065 based custom board what all arrangements do I need to do on PCB?

Let me know if my below understanding right:

I have to take out UART Rx and Tx pins from Custom Board PCB and then connect an external USB-Serial adapter between this custom board pcb and computer running Matlab.

With this connection would I be able to flash the code directly through Matlab onto controller (may be using SCI Boot) or do I still need XDS110 to flash the code?

Will I be able to run external mode with just Serial-USB adapter? Is the case same with CAN/ CCP based external mode too?

Kindly suggest.

Best Regards
