TMS320F28379D: Absolute Quadrature Encoder Position

Part Number: TMS320F28379D

Hello,

From reading the following document www.ti.com/.../spru790d.pdf, I understand that the quadrature encoder index signal is used to determine the absolute position.  Is there a convention among encoders that the rising edge of the index pulse occurs aligned with the stator A-axis?  If not, how do you whether this pulse corresponds to theta = 0, theta = pi/4, theta = pi/2, etc where theta is the angle used in the dq transformation?

Thanks,

Kevin
