8Bit PRAM connection issue with TMS320C28346

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C28346

I need to connect 8bit PRAM with TMS320C28346 but according to the specification, only 16bit and 32bit data bus are able to be connected to TMS320C28346. Is there any way to connect 8bit memory(PRAM) with TMS320C28346?

Thank you for your help in advanced.

Best regards,

Thomas Song

  • Hi Thomas,

the easiest way is to connect the device directly leaving upper 8 (24) bits of data bus unconnected, while connecting address bus. You'd need wrapper function which will adjust the address (times two) and modify data accordingly, while doing two physical transfers, as C2000 does not support 8bit data. If you use the device just for storage or if is an I/O device then you can get away with it, but if you'd like to access it via pointers or place code in it than you'll need hardware solution.

You might also do it in HW if the device is fast enough. If you'd put FPGA between, which will do what is needed (see SW description). Most certainly you'd need to extend the wait-states between FPGA and DSP to maximum in order to give FPGA enough time to make two transfers to PRAM
