Regarding customization of Piccolo's Developer's Kit TMDSDCD8KIT

I am an Aerospace Vehicle Design  (Avionics) student at Cranfield University and I am working on digital power right now. The Piccolo's Developer's Kit TMDSDCD8KIT best suits my requirements. This kit has a F28044 DSC Controlcard but I want a similar kit but with the F28069 Controlcard instead of F28044 Controlcard . Is such a customization feasible ? Can TI provide such a kit to me ?

  • Rishab,

Unfortunately, we do not currently have a kit that runs the F28069 on a multi-rail/multi-rail board such as the TMDSDCDC8KIT that you are describing.  It is possible to buy a F28069 controlCARD and use it with the TMDSDCDC8KIT.   The controlCARDs' pinouts are equivalent on all C2000 devices, so the TMDSDCDC8KIT can be controlled by the F28069.  However, to make the kit work  you'll need to change the CCS project software to make it work with the F28069.  If you choose to do this, the main things you'll need to change are the memory maps and the ADC driver software.

If you already have the TMDSDCDC8KIT I would recommend running through the CCS project guide and then take a look at the software to see if you can understand what's going on relatively quick.  If you cannot understand it quickly, sticking with the F28044 may be your best option (especially if your running on a limited time schedule).  If you haven't already bought the board, you can find the full software and hardware package on the web at the link below; just search for TMDSDCDC8KIT.

    Thank you,

  • Brett,

Thank you for the reply. Can the required kit be made to order ? If yes, how long would it take ?

    Thank you,

    Rishab Jain

  • Rishab,

You can order a TMDSDCDC8KIT that works with the F28044 today and it usually ships in a day or two as long as there is stock.

As mentioned, we do NOT have a TMDSDCDC8KIT that works with the F28069 immediately. (some software editing will need to be done by you to make this happen; unfortunately, we do not currently have any plans to convert the TMDSDCDC8KIT to F28069 either)

    Thank you,
    Brett

  • Thank You Brett. The information was very useful.

  • Hello Mr.Brett.

I haven't bought the kit yet. I'm particular about using F28069 because it has VCU. Can you suggest to me a buck converter that can be controlled using F28069. Moreover, I would like to know what kind of buck converters are used for power solutions in avionics. There are too many buck converters listed on the TI website.

    Regards,

    Rishab Jain

  • Rishab,

The type of buck converter needed will largely be determined by your application (efficiency, output ripple requirements, transient requirements, etc).  You should look at what you need as a guide of what to look for from TI or from reference designs.

Microcontrollers (especially C2000's) are not tied to a specific buck converter or even power topology.  In general, the MCU gives you greater flexibility to meet your design requirements.

    Thank you,
    Brett
