TMS320F28388D: What is a typical ambient temperature reading?

Part Number: TMS320F28388D

I know the answer to this depends on many variables, but my DSP temperature (a few seconds after power-up) is measuring ~55C and it reaches equilibrium at ~75C. We have the DSP fairly well loaded, with ~2/3 of the IO used. Do you have any guidance (or opinions) on the range of joules the DSP emits, or anything I can give my electrical/mechanical engineer to indicate that 1) this temperature is at least in the range of expectations, or 2) this temperature is outside of expected behavior, so we have a software\electrical\mechanical problem that needs to be addressed?

Thanks,

Jim

  • Hi Jim,

Yes, we actually do have specifications for this. You will need to ensure the junction temperature of the device does not exceed what is specified in the recommended operating conditions table.

You can use the values from the thermal characteristics tables to estimate the temperature to expect depending on how much power the device is consuming. Screen grab example of the table below. Let us know if there are more questions.
