TMS320F280049: Design questions

Part Number: TMS320F280049
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-F280049C

Hello team,

Let me ask a couple of questions to start design for TMS320F280049.

1) Is the tool kit "XDS100" also available for F280049? (It was used with F28035 in the past design.)

2) If my understanding is correct, F280049 may have internal PLL and may not require an external OSC. The EVM(LAUNCHXL-F280049C) looks have an external OSC, could you kindly tell the reason why and what potential use cases are considered for it? This question comes if users need to put an external OSC on the PCB.

Regards,
S.Sawamoto

  • Sawamoto,

We would recommend customer use either XDS110 or XDS200 for this device.  F280049 uses cJTAG(either 4 pin or 2 pin advanced), I am not certain that older XDS100 supports this standard.

You are correct that the device has internal 0-pin 10MHz oscillator(s).  The decision on to use these vs external clock will depend on frequency tolerance need in the end application.  Below is the tolerance/accuracy we mention in the datasheet.  For example I know that CAN bus requires 1% tolerant clock, so the internal oscillator would not meet this condition if CAN is needed.

    Best,

    Matthew
