TMS320LF2406A: Programmer Recommendations

Part Number: TMS320LF2406A

My customer is currently using an old programmer that requires an XP computer to run the software.

Is there another programmer that would support this processor that we can recommend?

  • Lindsey,

You are aware the LF240xA devices were in NRND status for several years before being pulled out of that status. The entire toolchain for these devices is now obsolete and there is very limited support for these devices (support now is mostly through e2e).

There are multiple ways to program TMS320LF240xA devices:

Through JTAG: Either the Prg2xx command line utility (or) SDFlash GUI (or) CCS flash plugin can be used. Supported debug probes are XDS510PP+ or XDS510USB. Note that the company that manufactured these debug probes (Spectrum Digital) has shut down and is no longer in business. However, you may be able to buy these probes online. SDFlash was developed by Spectrum Digital, so no support is available for that tool. Even if you manage to buy a XDS510PP+ probe, you may not be able to find a PC with a parallel port.

Through the serial port: The .out file must be converted to a hex file and the SERHOST.exe utility can be used to program the flash.

These two 3rd parties have programming solutions for LF240xA devices:

What programming H/W & S/W does the customer currently use?

  • I apologize for the repetitive post. I ended up finding this same data on a previous E2E post. I communicated the lack of support for this product but it is an existing product and the customer has used this device for multiple generations of products.

    Thanks!

  • Lindsey,

What programming H/W & S/W does the customer currently use? I have also sent you a few questions offline.
