TMS320F28379D: Use 28379DPTPT and FT2322HQ together --GPIO 42/43 doesn't exist

Part Number: TMS320F28379D

Hi Experts,

Good day. Please help with the customer's inquiry below.

Kindly see the full transcript of the query.

"I'm working on the 28379D customized design recently.

I got the reference design of TI launchpad 28379D. In this reference design, the FT2232 is connected to 28379D GPIO42/43 with a digital isolator.

However, I just find there is no pinout for the 28379DPTPT package, and thus this connection seems not available.

I find GPIO 28/29 pinouts in the 28379PTPT package, which also could be defined as SCIRXDA/SCITXDA. Could I connect FT2232 to GPIO28/29 instead of GPIO42/43? Or could I just let the two pins unused?"

Your help is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Marvin

  • Please see additional info from the customer.

"Just today I re-examine the GPIO and found the GPIO42/43 in PTP package. So it's concluded that FT2232 is also compatible with 28379DPTP package. GPIO 28/29 is not required now that we found GPIO42/43. Sorry for this part. :(

So here left my only question: What's this SCIRX/TX used in FT2232 for? In my previous experience, I never configure 28379's SCI port. But it could still work well."

    Thank you.

    Kind regards,

    Marvin

  • Hi Marvin,

Glad to hear that the customer was able to resolve their query. In regards to the SCIRX/TX connections, these are intended to allow for serial communication between the debugger and the device in the event you want to do things such as display information on the console in a debug session. If serial communication isn't needed, then you do not need to connect the SCI pins.

    Regards,

    Peter
