Hi Matt,
Pipeline mode in our newer devices provides additional features for the Counter and HLC submodules. In the counter, it allows you to use the counter value in the immediate previous cycle when driving the add/subtract/shift input. In the HLC, it allows the HLC events to use a CLB output from the previous cycle. More information about the CLB can be found in the CLB module within our C2000 Academy training (https://dev.ti.com/tirex/global?id=c2000Academy).
The biggest benefit that this brings is the ability to run the CLB at 150MHz as opposed to the regular 100MHz operation. However, this really only applies to the F2838x family of devices, which can run at 200MHz. Otherwise, it also allows you more flexibility to create more custom and complex logic within the CLB peripheral.
Regards,
Peter
