TMDSDOCK28379D: What are specifications for the power jack on this board?

Part Number: TMDSDOCK28379D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: C2000WARE, TMDSHSECDOCK

The available documentation for this board is woefully inadequate. The only description is for power jack J1 is 5V >1A barrel plug. Can you provide the specifications for the power jack so that I can attempt to purchase a power supply that will fit?

Why does documentation on this board NOT give full specifications for the power jack?

Why is a power brick for this board NOT supplied in the kit?

  • The available documentation for this board is woefully inadequate

The UG recommends a power supply PN which would support this, that PN was EOL'd. We are in the process of updating the documentation.

Why does documentation on this board NOT give full specifications for the power jack?

The power jack PN(PJ-002BH) is specified in the BOM found in C2000Ware: C:\ti\c2000\C2000Ware_4_01_00_00\boards\ExperimenterKits\DockingStation_HSEC_120or180pin\revF

Here is a forum post detailing the specification of a mating connector: https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/c2000-microcontrollers-group/c2000/f/c2000-microcontrollers-forum/1115886/tms320f28388d-ac-adapter-for-evms/4136479#4136479

We provide the PN for a component which is suitable in the user's guide.(currently out of date, but being updated) Secondly the standard use case of the controlCARD does not require the use of the barrel connector so we only specify this in the BOM.

Why is a power brick for this board NOT supplied in the kit?

There are a couple of reasons why we do not include a power supply in the board. First this is sold in many markets so a power adapter needs to support all plug types, voltages, and frequencies. Secondly the regulation and compliance standards which cover electronics with a power supply is much more stringent than electronics without a power supply. Again being that a power supply is not required for the standard use case of the EVM we do not see a justification of the added effort to comply with the additional regulations. Finally cost, this isn't needed for evaluation so it means we can provide our EVMs at a lower price point if we do not include the power supply.

    Cody

  • These parts have been specifically tested and known to work with the TMDSHSECDOCK part. Again, they are not required for evaluation, but can optionally be used.
