TMS320F28379D: XDS200 (using uniflash 6.2) : Failed unlocking device

Part Number: TMS320F28379D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH,

Hi,

I am using uniflash with xds200 to do on board programming on TMS320F28379D.  For a start, I have 9 boards that need programing.  I have successfully programmed 2 boards but have below error for rest of the boards (7) that ended with programming failure:

...

C28xx_CPU1: GEL Output Memory Map Initialization Complete

C28xx_CPU2: GEL Output Memory Map Initialization Complete

C28xx_CPU2: Warning Failed unlocking device (zone 1) after reset

C28xx_CPU2: Warning Failed unlocking device (zone 2) after reset

...

May I know what could be possible cause and solution?  If needed, how do I use the uniflash tool to do the unlock? Thanks.

  • Hi Benedict,

Are those 7 boards programmed previously (successfully at least once before the failure)?

    Thanks and regards,

    Vamsi

  • Hi Vamsi,

You may be right.  I need to check with my customer on their prior status.  If they were, is there a way to unlock them, eg. using uniflash itself.  Or what other tool can allow me to unlock them?  Thanks.

  • Hi Benedict,

You can use Uniflash or CCS flash plugin to enter the passwords and unlock.

    Thanks and regards,

    Vamsi

  • Thanks Vamsi,

Can you show me how to do that in Uniflash?  I am not at all familiar with Uniflash.

    Regards,

    Benedict

  • Hi Benedict,

Once you install UniFlash and connect to the device, you can enter the passwords in the GUI shown below under settings and utilities and then click unlock.

    Thanks and regards,
    Vamsi

  • Hi Vamsi,

Pardon me for my ignorance.  I am not a uC person but a incircuit test engineer who has a task of programming a TMS320F28379D on board.  So my questions may not be logical because I am not at all into uC.

Do I need to 'Program Password' before I can 'Unlock'?  I only click on 'Unlock' and the result is 'device is still locked'.  There are about 4 sections on these 'Unlock': do I need to unlock all of them?

Backgroun to my situation: 2 boards can be programmed and 7 other boards failed 'unlock':

    1. we have 2 uC TMS320F28379D on board.

    2. I am using Uniflash 6.2 to program 2 files: a firmware and a serial# file on CPU1 and CPU2.

    3. On one of the 'failed unlock board', we changed both uC with new raw part.  The programming result still showed 'failed to unlock'

    4. On a previously passed programming board, we also changed both uC with new raw part.  After change, the programming result showed 'failed to unlock', similar to failure I have seen earlier on the other 7 boards.

What do you think is happening?  Do you have any advice for me regarding programming the 2uC?  Thanks lots.

  • Hi Benedict,

I will assign this to our security expert to help you further.

    Thanks and regards,
    Vamsi

  • Hi,

If you have not programmed the password then device will be unlock by default. Device only need to be unlocked if you have programmed the password. In this case since you are getting the error for device lock, password must have been programmed on this device. In such case you need to know the password value to be able to unlock the device. If you know the password value then enter the correct value in the GUI field and then click on unlock. If you don't know the password then try to open password OTP location in memory view and if it's visible then you can use the correct password value to unlock. If all the values are 0x0 then not much can be done here and you need to use new device and before programming anything, review your map file (compiler output) and see if there is anything mapped at password location.
