TMDSHVMTRPFCKIT: The kit failed and burned

Part Number: TMDSHVMTRPFCKIT

Dear team:

When customers refer to the instructions in "HVMotorCtrl+PFCKit_HowToRunGuide" for testing, after execute:

"To use AC Mains Power, Connect [Main]-BS1 and BS5 to each other using banana plug cord. Now connect one end of the AC power cord to [Main]-P1.”,

then connecting to the mains (AC110V), the part in the lower left corner of the figure below was burned out.

Customer want to know:

1, what kind of setup error might be causing this to happen?

2, The function of this area should be used for PFC control, whether we can control motor without using this area?

Best regards,

Green

  • 1, what kind of setup error might be causing this to happen?

Don't add a wire to connect the Ground to Earth as shown in the picture above that's why the kit is damaged. There is no such instruction in the user's guide.

2, The function of this area should be used for PFC control, whether we can control motor without using this area?

Yes. Follow the guide to connect BS1 to BS5 using a jumper wire that will enable run the motor without PFC.

Please read the user's guide carefully and follow the guide to use the kit.

The EVM can accept power from the AC Mains/wall power supply, only uses the live and neutral line from the wall supply, the protective earth is unconnected (floating). The power
ground is floating from the protective earth ground, all of the ground planes are the same. Hence appropriate caution must be taken and proper isolation requirements must be met before connecting scopes and other test equipment to the board. Isolation transformers must be used when connecting grounded equipment to the EVM.
