F28335 - how to know its health in a new card without code loaded?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28335

I have new designed board with TMS320F28335 processor.

I met a problem that the SDflash utility does not see the F28335 processor when I was trying to use SDflash of DigitalSpectrum to load the code to flash by RS232 serial with DSP boot mode set to SCIA.

I suscpect that the processor was damaged on my board. What's the simplest way to check its heath? In other words, how do I know it is still survival?

Thanks!

  • Do you have access to the JTAG pins on your board?

This would be the easiest way to check chip health using a JTAG emulator.

Otherwise, there are other boot options such as SPI and CAN which could possibly be used for testing.

  • Also you can check XCLKOUT.  This will let you know if it is being clocked and the logic is there to pass the clock to an external pin.

  • What Lori suggests is right. check your oscillator is working or not at first, if it's working. then check XCLKIN. If works. then check XCLKOUT. if it works, then using ur SDConfig tool to communicate with the board assuming u have config ur enviornment properly via JTAG emulator. reset the emulator to see if it's working properly. and u can intiate the CCS.

but if u has no problem with SDConfig but with the problem with SDFlash, that's another story.
