TMS320F28379D: serial communication with analog measurements

Part Number: TMS320F28379D

Hi,

I am relatively new to using serial communication.  I was able to try the sci_echoback examples to send data from the DSP to the PC.  I am trying to write an application which measures a few quantities through sensors and then sends that as a string to the PC. The measurement occurs in an interrupt to keep precise timing.  I was able to add sci communication to this too. However I am not sure how to use the sci with interrupts as it takes a long time to transmit the string and the CPU is not able to go back to the main measurement ISR till the data is transmitted. Do I need to look at using the sci interrupts to manage the transmit operation. Any direction or post for implementing this would be very helpful. I am not looking at bidirectional communication, just transmitting from the DSP.

Thank you,

Aditya

  • Hi Aditya,

Is what you are transmitting through the sci, the measurement data? If so, you could probably send data after the calculation is performed. If you decide to use sci interrupts I would look at the FIFO levels. You can set it up to where, lets say after 10 values are written into the buffer, you transmit data. This can help reduce the frequency you are sending data. It might take longer for the cpu, but you could always disable your analog measurements during this time. It really depends on your application and your timing needs.
