difficulty in variable in watch window

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDSDOCK28035, CONTROLSUITE

I am using CCS V4.2 and XDS510LC USB as Jtag emulator. When I add a variable in watch window, it says "identifier not found", when i want to see a register, it says " could not read memory". Can anybody tell me the solution.

  • Can somebody tell me whats wrong with CCS ?

  • There really isn't enough information for anyone to work with here.

Have you tried adding ACC to the watch window to see if that works?

How about adding *(0x00) to the watch window?

If both of them work and your variable name doesn't, you'll need to tell us what that variable is declared as and where in memory it is placed into.

Otherwise, check if the target is connected.  Try to load a program and see if that works.

    ok, here is the details:

    1. I am using CCS V4.2.1 for code development

    2. My traget borad is TMDSDOCK28035 control card (XDS100 is not there in the board)

    3. I am using XDS510LC USB JTAG Emulator for loading the program and communicating with the target borad from host

    4. I am able to compile and load 2xPM Senslorless code (the has PFC front end and two PM sensorless control) in the flash that comes with the Controlsuite.

    5. I opened Ti Debugger in CCS and can start/stop/load the target board, no problem in that

I wanted to see how varuable or memory address is changing:

    Problem,

    1. I wanted to a variable in the motor control and I could add it in the watch window, however "value" column in the watch window says "identifier not found"

    2. Then I wanted to see an ADC register and I added it in the watch window, however "value" column in the watch window says " could not read memory"

Looks like that I need to set up the watch window properly, or something I am missing, please help

  • Does it still show "not found" if you pause the run?

Also, try compiling with all optimization turned off, reload the program, and try again.  See if that makes a difference.

What identifier do you mean?  Is it from the original TI code?

  • Hi Sibaprasad,

Is the variable global or local? If it is global is it static?

    Regards, Mitja

  • Yes, variables are global, its original TI code. Could it be that the memory is restricted to be read by some setting ???

  • Do you use original GEL file? It might be Memory Map issue.

    Mitja

  • Thanks Mitja, GEL file could be an issue. Do I need to include GEL file before I build the project, is there any specific way to add it or just add GEL file like other files ? How do I know whether a GEL file in included or not ?

  • One more question: how do I set the watch window variables in continuous refresh mode ?

  • set up: experimeter kit 28035, CCS V4.2.1, JTAG XDS510LC USB, using TI controlsuite code.

I am able to flash the MCU and run the code i the target board using TI debugger.

Question: Do I need to include GEL file as we add files while building the project or just need to set set up target configuration file and the GEL file (for the kit I am using) will be automatically taken care of ? I need to refresh the watch window continuously so that I can see some of the variables (parameters) changing while running the program.
