280xx Boot-Mode

Hallo,

I'm a little bit confused regarding the GPIOs participating in the Boot-Mode selection process.

in the Datasheets (of 2803x and 2806x) only 2 GPIOs are mentioned - TDO and GPIO34

on the other hand in the "Hardware design guidelines" (SPRAAS1A), the GPIOs mentioned are: GPIO18,GPIO29,GPIO34 (so the TDO is NOT mentioned)

can you please clarify how the boot-mode process is executed, which GPIOs are considered, and what are your recommendations for applications requiring the boot-mode:

1. Flash

2. SCI

Unfortunately, you have stumbled upon an inconsistency in the documentation. The table you are referencing, I believe Table 3 in the SPRAAS1A document is not relevant for the TMS320F2803x and TMS320F2806x devices. For understanding which pins are associated with the boot mode selection, the specific device datasheet is appropriate.

The recommendations for applications requiring the following boot mode is to have external pull resistors on the specific GPIOs for the desired configuration.

The boot ROM reference guide is also helpful. The F2803x devices (and F2806x) have a way to allow users to program their desired boot mode in the OTP. For Flash and SCI boot you can just use the pins. Here is the RG for the F2803x: http://focus.ti.com/lit/ug/sprugo0a/sprugo0a.pdf .

Ari,

Correction - You can boot to SCI using the pins directly. To boot to Flash you have to use the GetMode() mentioned above.
