Hi,

We are designing a 10kW bidirectional inverter that is to drive a 30 V, 250 A, motor running at 135000rpm. Typically the input is 48V DC and it is a turbo drive inverter for diesel engine.

I want to know what is the max frequency that InstaSpin can support with and without encoder and the max capacity of the eQEP module that Ti has.

Kindly revert asap.

That depends on how much codes in PWM ISR. Generally, the executions' time of sensorless InstaSPIN-FOC with FAST estimator is about 21us, and sensored-FOC with QEP is about 12us. So recommend to limit the maximum PWM/control frequency to 40KHz for Sensorless-FOC, and 70kHz for sensored-FOC if the CPU is 100MHz and reserve at least 15% CPU bandwidth.

If you mean the maximum motor running frequency of the motor that depends on the motor specification, dc bus voltage and the load on the motor, is not fully related to the controller. The EQEP should be able to meet the requirement for the maximum frequency of the motor with encoder.

Can you please let me know what is that limit In terms of Motor frequency . Our Motor spec is 130k RPM, which is not normal. We want to know whether it is possible with InstaSpin or not .

You may try to use a high CPU frequency C2000 device like TMS320F28376S, so you can try to use a higher PWM and control frequency as possible.

Are you wanting to use sensored-FOC or sensorless-FOC? What's the pole pair of the motor?

Hi Yanming,

Can you please clarify if instaspin can drive a motor of 132krpm. 2 pole motor or 4 pole motor. It is sensored control.

Instaspin-foc is sensorless-foc solution. As replied to you above, the C2000 device with 200MHz CPU should be good for running the motor to the speed.
