TMDSCNCD28388D: Tech reason why mini-USB is Isolated

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: C2000WARE, , TMDXIDDK379D, ISOUSB111

Hi Team,

Customer want to know the tech reason why the mini-USB is not isolated, please see details below.

In c2000/C2000Ware_4_01_00_00/boards/controlCARDs/TMDSCNCD28388D/Rev.B
referring to the file MCU063B (002) _Sch. I wonder why the XD5100V2 On-Board Debug Probe JTAG emulation tool is always isolated? While if the microcontroller / processor has an integrated USB peripheral, is this not isolated? XD5100V2 On-Board Debug Probe JTAG emulation tool is connected to the PC while the integrated USB is not?

I understand the need to isolate your control cards from my systems. in the schematic I am referring to, in addition to the XDS100v2 USB-to-JTAG Debug Probe, there is a second mini-USB on the board. This mini-USB is managed by the TMS320F28388DZWTS microcontroller. I would like to know the technical reason why this second mini-USB is not isolated

Thank you.

Regards,
May

  • Hi May,

The micro-USB port is just to enable the user to evaluate the F2838x USB peripheral, typically when testing with low voltage. The mini-USB port that's isolated may be used for real-time debugging the F2838x device while being used in a High-voltage system, like TMDXIDDK379D or other TI-C2000 reference designs.

You could certainly isolate the USB interface with something like ISOUSB111 device, but this isn't a typical requirement for ControlCard users.

    Best,
