LAUNCHXL-F280049C: SPRACN1 – May 2019 - C2000 Software Controlled Firmware Update Process

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F280049C

I am looking at SPRACN1 – May 2019 - C2000Tm Software Controlled Firmware Update Process

https://www.ti.com/lit/an/spracn1/spracn1.pdf?ts=1667928502058&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fsitesearch%252Fen-us%252Fdocs%252Funiversalsearch.tsp%253FlangPref%253Den-US%2526searchTerm%253DSPRACN1%2526nr%253D27

Herein on page 4 it shows that a 1K resistor and a 10 nF cap need to be connected between GPIO15 and ground. It doesn't say so but I presume this is in parallel to a 1 or 0 being connected to the pin. Is this necessary on this launchpad since there is another device (U8) besides the processor connected to GPIO15?

The reason I am asking is that I have been tasked with providing a way to update firmware without using JTAG or other debuggers. Our project's first choice is UART (SCI) but the cable length will less than 6 feet from PC to target so other choices are acceptable. This is a new processor family to me and CCS is whooping up on me a bit too so I feel I am in over my head (but wow, Getting Started and Resource Explorer are impressive).

Lastly the referenced document is 3.5 years old. If you know of something fresher I am all ears.

Thanks,

John
