TMS320F2800137: data logging

Hello,
my customer wants to log a 32byte variable at 8KHz rate into file. I recommend to use DSS script but he don't want to pull the data. He needs to get it continuously out of the 00137. Then I only see SPI or UART as an interface to connect to a PC. This device has no ERAD nor DMA so the CPU needs to be involved which is not optimal. Any other idea?

Hi Holger,

You are right that, because there is no DMA or ERAD, the CPU will have to be interrupted to write this log file of 32 bytes. For example, this will require for SCI at least 2 FIFO interrupts (16 bytes each) every time the data needs to be sent. But to summarize, like you originally suspected, CPU intervention is required.

Are you wanting to run DSS scripts in parallel with your application code? In your initial post, you mentioned about datalogging 32 bytes of data at 8KHz rate. Then you are mention about reading the memory continuously. Can you please clarify?

Hello Manoj,
customer wants to continuously read out a value of 32Byte at a rate of 8KHz. Is this clear now. Of course faster is no problem.

You should be able to read RAM contents continuously using DSS script but this would require CPU intervention.

Hello Manoj,
so how you do that?
Why does it need CPU inervention? I thought the DSS is connected through the debugger which doesn't need CPU intervention.

FAE,

DSS scripting doesn't need CPU intervention as it has a seperate JTAG debug access port to read the memory contents.
