SM320F2808-EP: Sample Target Config

Hello E2E Experts,

Good day.

I am using 2808 DSP and code composer. I am not able to see the SI signal for my SPI communication with my GPIO expander device. Someone suggested that maybe my code compose is not configured properly which is why the DSP peripherals are not working.

Do you have a sample target config for SM320F2808-EP?

If you can add a sample target configuration file, for 2808, that would be great.

Highly unlikely incorrect CCS configuration is preventing SPI from operating properly. If you are able to connect to the device via CCS (and load/run code), likely your target configuration file is good. From CCS perspective, the target config file for TMS320F2808 and SM320F2808-EP is identical.

You can try the attached file (created for XDS100v2 debug probe). In any case, it is very straightforward to create a new target config file for the debug probe you are using. This file typically needs to be copied in C:\Users\your_name\ti\CCSTargetConfigurations

Good day.

I tried the configuration file you sent, however, I still have the issue.

My task is to initialize the 2808 DSP GPIO and SPI to access an mcp23s18 expander device to control more GPIOs and also a multiplexer to access extra A2Ds and communicate debug information over UART to a dumb terminal.

So I need to configure TI's SPI, GPIO, SCI, then MCP23s18 and ADC128S102.

I am using a legacy 2809 DSP (SM320F2809-EP) code as my baseline so if 2808 and 2809 ADC, SPI and GPIO initializations are different then that could be my first problem.

Please see attached code for my SPI, GPIO, and expander:

My first problem is when running SPIC, the SI line is flat so I am unable to send/receive data to/from the expander chip.

They are not.

Debugging your code is not something we can support on e2e. As mentioned before, if you are able to connect to the device and load/run code via CCS, your target config file is likely good.

For peripheral initialization code, please refer to the examples in C:\tidcs\c28\DSP280x\v160\DSP280x_examples.

The configuration file didn't work out of the box. I had to change jtag information.

Should it have worked out of the box?

To determine the differences in peripheral from one device to another, please refer to www.ti.com/lit/SPRU566. Below table is from page 12. As you can see, ADC & SPI type is identical for both devices. You can also find this information in Table 6-1 in the datasheet.

How about the SPI bus not outputting data?

So I have SPI C to interface with a gpio expander.

SPI C is mux'ed at gpio20-23 set to mux 2.

I can see CLK and CS but I don't see anything on SI or SO, gpio20, 21.

So nothing is going to the expander.

When I step through my code, the SPI seems to be echoing what I am transmitting.

Please try the example in C:\tidcs\c28\DSP280x\v160\DSP280x_examples\spi_loopback. You should be able to modify it for external transmission by disabling the loopback.

Good day.

MCP23S18 board seems to be an 8-bit chip communicating with 16-bit SPI.

How do I ensure bits going out and coming in are in the right place?

Bits 3-0 of SPICCR register [SPICHAR] filed can be used to configure the word length from 1 bit all the way to 16-bits.
