TMS320F28022-Q1: M1 RAM sector shows weird phenomenon

Part Number: TMS320F28022-Q1

Hi BU experts, 

Customer found one board with RAM error. They modified the RAM at address of 0x400 via emulator memory browser (the value is changed from 0x0000 to 0xAAAA), but some other RAM bytes after this address, such as 0x402, 0x414 etc., their value will change to 0x0020 too. And some address such 0x404, some bit can't be changed to 1 (write 0xAAAA, but actually store 0xAA8A). 

Only M1 RAM has this problem, M0 and L0 don't show this error. 

Please help check if this kind of problem be found before, the root cause and possible workaround.

    Hello Will,

    Can you confirm with the customer that they made sure to use the sample emulator/setup when testing other boards? The device may be running out of specification (voltage rail too low, CPU clock is too high, etc.). In this the program/setup may be at fault. Ask the customer to verify the voltage supplies/inputs and clocking are within spec of the datasheet. For the clock, they can just make sure the PLL is bypassed to see if the issue persists (if it doesn't, then gradually increase the PLL until it fails).

    Let me know when they verify the above info.

    Hi Omer Amir, 

    Thanks for your input. Customer have checked the stability of power supply and it is fine. And also let them to modify the M1 RAM before initializing PLL, similar phenomenon happened. 

    Is there any other possible root-cause?

    How old is the device the customer is using, and what is its usage history? Was there any known potential for damage?

    Hi Omer, 

    This device is from customer's field, I am not very sure how long it been used and what kind of working and usage condition, I need to check this with customer. 

    From the debug, I think the M1 RAM bank should be damaged, but the customer wants to know the root-cause and possibility of this failure. As you know, auto application always very care about the quality. Not sure if we found this kind of failure before, and our research and workarounds.

    Hello Will,

    I have not heard mention of this issue being seen before, and I could not find it in the errata so other customers most likely have not experienced it either. It sounds like this issue is also only happening on one board. I would ask the customer to go ahead and follow the return policy as stated on the TI website. Please post the case number once they have it so that I can follow through on what the ultimate finding is.
