TMS320F28069: Difference between the TMS320F28069MPZT and TMS320F28069PZT

Part Number: TMS320F28069

Hello,

My customer is looking at moving from the TMS320F28069PZT to the TMS320F28069MPZT and I cannot find anywhere that clearly states all the differences. I was looking at this thread:

https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/c2000-microcontrollers-group/c2000/f/c2000-microcontrollers-forum/1076037/does-code-on-tms320f28069pzt-will-work-without-any-change-on-tms320f28069mpzt

And it shows a difference of FPU and tables, but is that the only thing? Could you please send a comparison that includes all the differences so they can make sure they are not missing anything?

Thanks!

John

  • John,

Please take a look at the device comparison table of the datasheet.

TMS320F2806xM devices are InstaSPIN-MOTIONTm-enabled MCUs. But instaSPIN-MOTION is no longer recommended for new designs and will not have application support.

The difference in the locations of the FPU and IQMath tables in the Boot ROM  is explained the thread you referred.

    Regards, Santosh

  • Ho Santosh,

Thanks! If the M devices are no longer recommended for new designs, why doesn't the product page reflect that?

Also, I missed notes 2 and 3 under the table, so thanks for pointing that out. But to be honest that table doesn't show any differences. The two devices are in the same column and have the same package suffix. So in summary, are the only differences what I show below?

    • FPU and IQ Math tables in Boot ROM
    • USB on the M version and not the non-M version
    • M is now NRND but the non-M version is still okay for new designs?

    John

  • John,

The M devices are still being manufactured, so we would not set to NRND.  That status is really only used for production related topics.

The note was added to the datasheet to deter new designs as the 3P supporting the MOTION devices was purchased by another company and we wanted to reduce ongoing support.
