TMS320F280040-Q1: Communication between microcontrollers thru CAN (without CAN transceivers)

Hi Team,

Our customer is using three TMS320F28004 microcontrollers in their design. He would like to explore the option of using CAN internal to their circuit board ( not using a CAN transceiver) to communicate between the microcontrollers. He has inquiries as follows:

1. Have you seen a design where CAN is used internal to the circuit board?

2. What are the electrical characteristics of the CAN pins (RX, TX). rise time, etc.

Yes, but CAN is rarely used in this fashion. You are better off using I2C which doesn't need a transceiver. If only CAN is available, you need to create a wired-AND circuit. One method is shown below. Google "CAN bus without transceiver" for more ideas.

Same as any GPIO pin.
