TMS320F280039C: CMPSS vs. ADC PPB for OCP/OVP in power converter application

Hi,

I'm learning TMS320F280039C for my DC-DC power converter application. According to the manual, both CMPSS and ADC PPB seem to be able to realize over-current or over-voltage protection for my converter. The TIDA-010062 demo board example code uses CMPSS. Is there a specific reason why CMPSS is picked over using comparator in the ADC PPB module?

Hello Ziwei,

The CMPSS will respond faster. The CMPSS is specified to be able to trip the ePWM or output pin within 60ns of input change. In comparison,the ADC will take at least 250ns for sample+hold and conversion. In addition, the CMPSS has digital filtering and hysteresis functionality in the hardware, which are useful for preventing spurious trips.
