TMS320F280039C-Q1: request I2C assistance and interfacing with TI ADS7128

Part Number: TMS320F280039C-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: C2000WARE, ADS7128, ADS1278

First, please read the background information regarding this post here: https://e2e.ti.com/support/data-converters-group/data-converters/f/data-converters-forum/1215745/ads7128-can-i-read-the-device-address-from-a-register?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=ads7128#

I'm having trouble interacting with the ADS7128 via I2C bus from my Launchpad. Which sequence of c2000ware/CCS commands do i need to implement in order to read from an ADS7128 register ?

  • James Long,

ADS7128 I2C address depend on the resistor configuration on DECAP pin. What are your resistor settings? When you send I2C commands from F280039, did you get ACK signal from ADS7128?. I would encourage you to try I2CBusScan function available in i2c_ex4_eeprom_polling (C2000Ware example code). This function identifies all the I2C addresses available on I2C bus. This way you can be sure about the I2C address of ADS1278.

This is the logic analyzer snapshot shared by Tom. Are you trying to exactly send the same command? If so, what does your logic analyzer snapshot show?

  • 1. thank you Manoj. no i have not tried i2cBusScan...i did not know it existed as it is not in the F28003x tech manual in section 26.7.3 I2C Registers to Driverlib Functions Table 26-25. I2C Registers to Driverlib Functions on pages 2680/1

    2. are those functions on pages 2680/1 meant to be all encompassing? if not, is there a repository somewhere that does have all of the available modules?

    3. what is the difference between the various example folders (driverlib, device_support, examples, etc)?

  • James,

I2CBusScan is not a driverlib function. It is a function available in i2c_ex4_eeprom_polling example. You need to load the i2c_ex4_eeprom_polling example project to use I2CBusScan.

    3. what is the difference between the various example folders (driverlib, device_support, examples, etc)?

driverlib example is the Recommended example structure which uses device drivers for all the module available in C2000 chips.

device_support example is legacy example structure which uses bit-filed instead of device drivers. In most cases, the examples are the same between driverlib and device_support. But, only driverlib examples has all the latest examples.

Examples folder just a shortcut to all the device specific example folders.

    Regards,

    Manoj
