Hello, I am using drv8301 Boostxl and TMS320F28379D to speed control Teknic2310-P (3Phase PMSM) engine with FOC. As it is known, this motor has sinusoidal back emf. Can I run PMSM with the same DSP with FOC using DRV8300 and suitable mosfets? What are the limitations here? Is there any difference with the DVR8301. (If the appropriate circuit is designed) Thank you..

  • Hi Bilal, 

    From the DRV8301 -> DRV8300 migration side of things, 

    • Both devices can be operated with either 3xPWM mode or 6xPWM mode
      • therefore, you can expect to have the DRV part drive the external power stage MOSFETs in the same fashion. 
    • In summary, DRV8300 has more robust voltage ratings is a more robust newer-gen part than DRV8301. 
      • however, DRV8300 has fewer integrated features - lacking functional blocks such as integrated CSAs, BUCK, and SPI-based protection/diagnostics. to get the same level of functionality in the system-level context, you'll want to review each datasheet in detail & map out the features you'll need to achieve motor control.
